Christmas’ Four Most Powerful Words
Be it unto me. I believe these to be the four most powerful words of the Christmas story.
When God sent an angelic messenger to visit teenage Mary, the angel delivered an astounding message to her. This never-heard-before message was that Mary would be overshadowed by God’s Holy Spirit, and she would conceive a child.
Mary, a virgin, would give birth to a son, the Son of God.
Like any of us would be upon receiving such a startling message, Scripture says Mary was troubled. Oh my…this changes everything. My whole life is about to be altered! Then she asked, “How is this supposed to happen?”
When we are presented with God’s next steps for our life, they often come wrapped in troubling packages: unexpected circumstances, things others won’t understand, or situations we cannot fix ourselves.
We have two choices for our response. We can withdraw in fear and self-preservation, or we can have a Mary heart. Mary pushed past her fears and her own plans and simply decreed, “Be it unto me according to thy Word.”
Be it unto me. These four words of yielding, faith, submission, and trust put Mary in perfect alignment with her destiny. God’s divine will was accomplished in her life. Mary’s obedience changed history for all of us. Before there was a “Call His name Jesus,” there had to be a “Be it unto me.”
If you said “Be it unto me” with every God situation in your life right now, what might your tomorrow look like? Fear would give way to faith. God could birth a new thing in you!
