Engaged to God
Did you know that every Spirit-filled believer is engaged to God? Ephesians 1:13–14 (TPT) declares, “And because of him, when you who are not Jews heard the revelation of truth, you believed in the wonderful news of salvation. Now we have been stamped with the seal of the promised Holy Spirit. He is given to us like an engagement ring is given to a bride, as the first installment of what’s coming! He is our hope-promise of a future inheritance which seals us until we have all of redemption’s promises and experience complete freedom—all for the supreme glory and honor of God!”
Wow! The promises in these verses are incredible. No engagement ring in the world compares to God’s engagement ring. Why? Because God’s engagement ring is Himself.
We are sealed with the Holy Spirit—God—and this is our down payment or first installment of what is to come. Just as a natural engagement ring is a promise of oneness to come, God filling us with His Spirit is a promise of a future eternal inheritance with Him.
I love how Paul described it—a future with all of redemption’s promises. It is hard for us to fathom the depth and height of all that Christ’s redemption purchased. But that’s not all. Our future also encompasses complete freedom. Try to imagine it. A heaven with complete freedom, surrounded by redemption’s promises. I can think of nothing better. These are supernatural superlatives!
If you are not sure you have received God’s engagement ring, ask Him to fill you with His Spirit. He promises to give it to you just as He did for others in Acts 2, 4, 8, 10, and 11. Your promise is waiting! You too can be engaged to God.
