New Year New Me: God's Plan or Yours?
Simply put, God’s plans for you are better than your plans for you (Jeremiah 29:11).
With the new year upon us, most of us have spent the past couple of weeks contemplating last year—the good, the bad, the happy, the sad, the prayers answered, the dreams fulfilled, and the hopes that still burn within us. We proclaim, “New Year, New Me”!
We each have a blank canvas of fifty more weeks in front of us. There are 350 or so days yet to be sketched. If we aren’t careful, we can use too small of a filter on our future. I’m suggesting that you trade in your looking glass for God’s vision for your future.
Do you know that God has very detailed plans for your life? These plans are a lot more impacting than get skinny, get wealthy, get healthy, get famous…get, get, get. God is your Creator. He wants to be your Alpha and Omega, the Author and Finisher of your faith. He wants to be the bookends for your life. He can help you start well and end well.
There’s just one catch: you need to trade your plans for you, for His plans for you.
So why should you?
Consider what He says about you. In the Passion Translation, God said, “Here’s what Yahweh says to you: ‘I know all about the marvelous destiny I have in store for you, a future planned out in detail. My intention is not to harm you but to surround you with peace and prosperity and to give you a beautiful future, glistening with hope. When you call on me and come to me in prayer, I will listen to your every word. If you reach out to me, you will find me when you search for me with all your heart. I will not disappoint you,’ declares Yahweh” (Jeremiah 29:11–13).
Wow! He has a marvelous destiny for you. One that is planned out in detail. His intentions are pure, and He promises to surround you with peace and prosperity. His future for you is absolutely beautiful. Not only that, it glistens with hope for you for more!
Why should you trade your plans for His? Because He is the only one who can promise you a future like this and work in you, with you, and for you to make it happen. I believe you and God can make this your best New Year, New Me ever!
